How Is Yahoo Using Your RSS Feed?

24-Jan-06

With the free submit, Yahoo allows you to submit your home page, or an RSS feed. Do we need to submit both?

The format for the site submission has changed in the free Yahoo web submissions http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request . At first it allowed you to submit your site to it using the free submission form. This was normally the home page, and you would hope that their spider would crawl the rest of your website from there. Some webmasters have found this inadequate and have submitted other pages that Yahoo failed to notice otherwise.

More recently Yahoo allowed you to put in a text document with a list of URL’s to simplify the submission process.

A few weeks ago I noticed that Yahoo also allows RSS feeds of your website, Atom feeds, or a text listing of urls in this submission form. What does this mean? What will Yahoo do with the links in the RSS feed?

The text list of URL’s was obviously an effort to simplify the process for Yahoo to find all the pages in a website, as their documentation describes. But the RSS? Will they just add this to their database of RSS feeds for RSS searches, or will they follow the links with their spider to evaluate all the pages listed?

I have been working with Google Sitemaps since they came out. (Google uses their XML-formatted Google Sitemaps to help discover all the pages in a website, as well as to evaluate what pages have changed recently.) I am wondering if this is Yahoo’s response to the Google Site Maps. Does anyone know?

If I was them, then I would use RSS feeds to evaluate changes in the website. This has more information than the list of URL’s, since it also has descriptions and date changed. They have all the right information. If this is the case, it would be advisable for webmasters to have a RSS feed for their whole site to submit. That way Yahoo could just check the feed and know what pages to re-crawl, or what pages have been added.

It could be just as possible that this is just a field for us to submit RSS feeds, in addition to the other pages in your website. If this is the case, then we may need to submit both the feed and the home page of the website.

For myself, unless I find out differently, I am going to submit both. I intend on having a Google Sitemap and a RSS feed on all my future websites. I think it is safest to help out the search engines in any way possible. If they want information on what files have changed, I want to be proactive in giving it to them.

In addition, for those who have the coding experties, it is advisable to automate pinging Yahoo when your RSS feed changes. This is a standard blogging technique.

If you use movable type, the following article will help you configure your Yahoo to be automatically notified of a change in your RSS feed: http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/001490.html . There is an alternate way, for those who dont use movable type or standard blogs. Lets say you want Yahoo to know about the RSS feed for http://www.yourwebsiteurl.com and have the RSS file, myRss.xml. You could automate (or even use a web shortcut) to make the following HTTP request: http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping?u=http://www.yourwebsiteurl.com/myRss.xml

Hyundai: The Modern Way

24-Jan-06

The company’s name means “modern” in Korean, and this company is known the world over as the Hyundai Group. This was founded by Chung Ju-yung in the year 1947 as a construction company, and was once become South Korea’s biggest conglomerate. Come 2003, the company was then split into five business entities that included the Hyundai Motor Group, the Hyundai Group, the Hyundai Department Store Group, and the Hyundai Development Group.

However, before this split up came about, Hyundai had several major areas of activity that comprised of shipbuilding, car manufacture, construction, retailing, finance, and electronics. This conglomerate is known for the manufacturing of motor vehicles in several countries with the United States as a market for these cars that the company produces.

The Hyundai Motor Company became South Korea’s largest car manufacturer and ranked seventh in the list of the world’s largest car makers in 2003. This company has a tagline attached to it says, “Drive your way.” Its logo is quite symbolic of the company’s desire to expand. It has an ovaloid shape that denotes the company’s global expansion, and it also has the slanted and stylized letter H that could mean a symbolism of two people shaking hands.

Looking at popular culture, the Hyundai has been part of this. In one episode of The Simpsons, there was one reference to the “H” logo of the Hyundai that Principal Skinner had stolen from one of the bullies in their community. Also, in a Family Guy, there have been several references to the Hyundai. Some of the dialogues refer to it, the Black Knight stating, “Get back in the Hyundai!” and an announcement over the announce booth that says, “The owner of a blue Hyundai, your car is being towed.”

Hyundai would not receive any place in the list of the largest car manufacturers if not for their exquisite attention to detail. As part of a Hyundai vehicle, Hyundai grilles have certainly held that Hyundai trademark all on its own. The Hyundai grille is an opening in the bodywork of a vehicle that has the capability to allow air to enter. Most of these vehicles have a grille located in the front end so as to allow air to flow over the radiator, thus cooling the engine compartment. However, Hyundai grilles could also be placed and installed below the front bumper, in the front of the wheels for serving the purpose of cooling the brakes, or even on the rear deck lid if the vehicle has its engine mounted at the back.

The Hyundai grille comes manufactured with the best kind of materials. Also, they have this metal or plastic parts that are inserted in it that helps quite add up a touch of design and art to the front end of the Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai owners have been customizing their grilles so as to provide a difference in their vehicles. This Hyundai grille adds up uniqueness and serves aesthetic purposes.

Hyundai owners and enthusiasts can buy top quality discount Hyundai grilles from Auto Parts Fast’s online store. Browse through the store’s online inventory of Hyundai parts that are quality made.

Website Optimization - A SEO Specialist Reveals All

23-Jan-06

Website optimization is the first step in promoting your website. Those with foresight and deeper pockets will have a SEO-savvy webmaster (such as myself) build the website that is optimized from the start. Otherwise, a website may need a SEO-facelift later to help it be digestible to the search engines - and to make it obvious to the search engines that the keywords you are trying to be found under are truly relevant to your website. Like any specialty, performing website optimization involves skills, special tools, and a willingness to keep up with current changes in the market.

Unfortunately, hiring an SEO expert can be quite expensive. For those who want to do it themselves, here are the steps.

Bookmark these tools! you WILL need them!

The first step in website optimization is to make sure you have well-formatted HTML. I would encourage you to use the following tool to check this: http://validator.w3.org/ Do your best to get your website as close to conformance as possible.

If you use CSS, then use a CSS validator at http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator-uri.html There is rarely an excuse for not having it validate here.

If you follow most of the suggestions for having valid HTML code your web pages will be more digestible for the search engines, as well as being much more cross-browser compliant. You should also do this after any significant edit of the web page - to ensure that it is still compliant.

The second step in website optimization is to work on the Meta tags and the title tag for each page in your site. These are in the header of your web page document and need to be tailored to attract users who type in one of a select group of keywords. If you need a tool to help generate these, use this meta tag generator tool here (http://www.spiderweblogic.com/HTML-Meta-Tag-Generator.aspx) that I built.

The title tag:

The title tag is, of the three, the most important for the major search engines. Don’t make this too long - normally no more than 6 words. But have your most important keywords here. Some SEO specialists advise that even the order of the text here is significant. They suggest that if you place your company name in the title, that it should be placed last so the other keywords are being considered with greater weight.

The meta-keywords tag:

This is now of lesser importance than before, due to abuse by webmasters to achieve high rankings. However, it is still important and is required by many of the smaller search engines. Make sure that you don’t repeat any keyword or keyword phrase more than three times. That would be considered Spam (bad SEO tactics) by the search engines. Remember, your visitors will see the title of the web page. Make it useful to them as well.

The meta-description tag:

This is of higher importance than the keywords tag. Several search engines use it when they show your listing. It needs to encourage your potential visitors to visit your website. Of course, having keywords in here is important. But keep the primary purpose in mind as you write it. Here too, you should make sure that you don’t repeat any keyword or keyword phrase more than three times.

Each page in your website needs its own tailored title, meta-description, and meta-keywords tag. These need to be focused on the keywords you are trying for. (These are the words or phrases you want to be found at when people are doing searches.) These shouldn’t normally be the same on every page. They should be customized to the content that is on that page. You should also keep your visitors in mind as you write them.

The third step is to work on your content - especially on your home page. Ideally you would have between 800 - 1200 words of text. It should have your most important keywords at the top, middle and the bottom of the text. If possible, use an “h1″ tag at the top for your title - and have your most important keyword imbedded in it. Also, have some of your keywords in a sentence or phrase that is bolded. Keep it natural for your visitors to read. If it doesn’t look natural, you will loose any visitors you have attracted.

The fourth step in website optimization is to edit your links and your images to make full use of the “title” and “alt” attributes.

Text links can have a “title” attribute. The content is to more fully describe your link. When you put your mouse over the link, the content of the “title” attribute is displayed. I would encourage you to tailor the description so that it contains at least one of your keywords - but keep it accurate - that it really does describe the link. It must make sense to the common user.

Images HTML tags can have an “alt” attribute. It is used to describe an image when you put a mouse over it. It is also used for different devices for seeing impaired. Also, it is used when the user decides not to show images with the web site. They will see this text instead. (It is the “Alternate Text” for the image.) Try to incorporate some keywords here too - but keep with the spirit of being the “alternate text” for the image.

If you are using tables, you may even include a table “summary” attribute. The purpose of this attribute is to assist for those with disabilities to understand the contents and structure of a table. Keep all summary comments within that purpose - and add keywords only where appropriate. Note that these summary attributes may cause your web page validator to spit up an error - but this is newer item that is encouraged.

The fifth step is to have a good menu system or a site map. Search engines follow links to find the different pages in your site. If your navigation is one of those JavaScript drop-down menus or Flash menus, the search engines may not find all of your pages unless you have an alternative non-JavaScript link path that they can follow. If you use the fancy JavaScript links, you should have a hard link to a site map on every page. The site map should have a real non-JavaScript list of links that the search engines can follow to map out your whole site. As a standard policy I tend to avoid the JavaScript links in the menus.

Optional:
If you haven’t chosen a domain name yet, you may strongly consider having your top keyword phrase in the domain name, with the words separated by dashes. This is an excellent idea, but not always feasible. Many companies already have a domain name selected, or prefer to use their company name as the domain name. This is a business decision left up to the customer.

Things not to do:
Don’t create and market mirror sites though to accomplish this trick either. Sites that are identical in content, but have a different domain name are considered SPAM (bad/taboo) by the search engines. They don’t appreciate such tricks, and the ranking of both websites will suffer for it.

Also, don’t get too crazy with stuffing keywords where they don’t belong or by repeating keywords or by having keywords in hidden layers. Search engines don’t like that and will ban your site.

SEO Software to buy:
I have used SEO Studio to do website analysis during my optimization. This has been an invaluable tool for analyzing how saturated my keywords are in a particular web page. It is reasonably priced and I have been very satisfied with the performance. It is easy to see such things as keyword density relevance for the whole web page. It also is helpful in showing where the keywords are not (and can be). Y ou will learn a lot about website optimization just by using this tool!

NOW WHAT?
After all this “Search Engine Optimization” you need to do a human review your website - is it natural/useful/helpful for the human visitor? Remember, getting website traffic is only half the game. This site needs to quickly convert them into paying customers.

Once it is “Optimized”, then you need to let the search engines know that you exist. Only after it is ready should you tell them about it. But this is a subject for another article. Do a search of different article warehouse or SEO news sources. You will find a lot of information on this.

Website optimization news sources:
Since there are new quirks in the website optimization and website promotion that come out all the time - some that apply to all search engines, and some that apply to a particular one, it is wise to keep up to date. I strongly encourage you to join a couple of relevant mailing lists!

I really like the news sources from Entireweb.com. If you submit a site through them, I would encourage you to accept their free newsletters. They have great content. http://www.entireweb.com/submit_site/

Another place to get really great articles on website optimization or promotion is http://www.SiteProNews.com They also allow you to subscribe to their articles. Do this!

If you are serious about keeping up with your website positioning, keep up with the news. You will find these resources invaluable!

NaProTechnology: A Medical Breakthrough in Infertility Treatment

13-Dec-05

In New Hope For Infertility With NaProTechnology, the advantages of a new reproductive science that uses the physician’s medical and surgical energies in a way that works cooperatively with a woman’s natural reproductive function is reviewed. Current artificial reproductive technologies (ART) in widespread use rely on unnatural laboratory procedures rather than natural sex and are associated with significant risks and moral objections.

Technology is a new reproductive science uses the physician’s medical and surgical energies in a way that works cooperatively with a woman’s natural reproductive function. Created at the Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction in Omaha, Nebraska, it is touted as a revolutionary breakthrough for helping couples who desire to achieve a pregnancy naturally.

This article is a review of information from a new DVD called New Hope For Infertility With NaProTechnology, that does an excellent job of presenting some simple facts about the differences between NaProTechnology and the Artificial Reproductive Techniques (ART) that are currently in widespread (e.g., In Vitro Fertilization [IVF]) use.

NaProTechnology is not just an alternative for couples who object to ART for moral reasons, but rather, it should be considered the rational choice anyone who is in serious need of medical and possibly even surgical attention for a real medical problem affecting reproduction.

Best of all, because the focus of NaProTechnology is diagnosis and treatment, it avoids the need for conception to occur by any means other than the natural way It goes without saying that once a medical problem has been diagnosed and treated, this has important health benefits that can be realized during the pregnancy and well beyond. For the same reasons, women who get pregnant as a result of NaProTechnology are frequently able get pregnant again.

Here is a summary of what is presented - Artificial Reproductive Technology:

  1. ignores the underlying causes of infertility;
  2. is associated with a multiple pregnancy rate of 35.4% (CDC Data);
  3. is more than twice as likely to result in a child with a major birth defect: 9% versus 4.2% (New England Journal of Medicine);
  4. recent studies suggest that ART may also be associated with higher rates of low birth weight infants, cancer, and even developmental issues;
  5. ART sometimes requires “selective reduction,” which involves selectively “reducing” (i.e., killing) additional babies in the womb when there are too many.

NaProTechnology and The Creighton Model System The Creighton Model System is a standardized gynecologic charting system that is an integral part of NaProTechnology. Without the Creighton Model System, the physician who practices NaProTechnology would have inadequate information for the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive problems. Usually, a couple would start this program by learning how to chart the menstrual cycle according to the Creighton Model system. A medical consultation with a physician who is trained in NaProTechnology can be conducted at the same time.

Frequently, the evaluation of infertility will include a targeted hormone evaluation of the menstrual cycle and an ultrasound series to evaluate ovarian function (this cannot be done without the Creighton Model System). A surgical evaluation is sometimes needed as part of a complete investigation.

The bottom line is that these techniques result in a “functional” and/or “structural” diagnosis that can then be addressed medically or surgically and the end result is natural conception.

Unfortunately, because of ART, we are led to believe that there is a “quick fix” for infertility. In reality, ART, doesn’t address the cause of infertility at all and does nothing to correct medical problems that might also affect the outcome of a pregnancy. Even worse, the conceptual, perinatal, and developmental implications and dangers associated with conception in a laboratory, it seems, are only now becoming appreciated.

According the Pope Paul VI Institute, NaProTechnology success rates are 1.5 to 3 times better than IVF (23.5% versus 38.4%-81.8%).

The Truth About Asthma And Vocal Cord Dysfunction

12-Dec-05

While the symptoms of asthma and vocal cord dysfunction are similar, there are some subtle clues which can you distinguish the difference.

Ever heard of vocal cord dysfunction? Not many have. Vocal cord dysfunction is a respiratory condition characterized by adduction of the vocal cords. The result is a limitation of airflow at the level of the larynx that is often mistaken for asthma. The symptoms are very similar and can actually occur alone or along with asthma.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that makes airways (bronchial tubes) particularly sensitive to irritants. This is characterized by difficulty in breathing. The symptoms of asthma include: Coughing. Wheezing … a whistling or squeaky sound when you breathe. A tight feeling in the chest. Shortness of breath causing a feeling like you can’t get enough air in or out of your lungs. Narrowing of the air passages in the lungs and hence increased resistance to airflow. Rapid and considerable changes in airway obstruction. Frequent nocturnal episodes and low morning peak flow values.

A person with vocal cord dysfunction on the other hand, particularly those who do not have asthma, usually display the following symptoms: Experience an abrupt attack with a quick recovery. Are generally able to speak during an attack, but often have a hoarse voice. May improve when he or she pants or sings (yes, sings). Experience more difficulty breathing in than breathing out. The harsh, high-pitched sound of air coming into a tight airway may be heard at the throat. May have a dry cough. May not respond to standard asthma treatment. Generally there are no nocturnal episodes. It’s easy to see how these two respiratory conditions might be misdiagnosed.

While there are other illnesses which can also mimic the symptoms of asthma the way vocal cord dysfunction does, these are generally much rarer. Vocal cord dysfunction is often caused by postnasal drainage or reflux disease, and will generally improve with the treatment of these conditions. Another clinical clue that it might be vocal cord dysfunction instead of asthma may be that patients often respond poorly to beta-agonists or inhaled corticosteroids. Treatment for VCD often involves high-dose inhaled and/or systemic corticosteroids, bronchodilators, and in severe cases hospitalizations, tracheostomies and intubation.

To summarize, while the exact cause of vocal cord dysfunction is not clearly evident there are some subtle differences that distinguish it from asthma. Primarily, you’ll want to note if your breathing attacks are nocturnal or not, if they respond to standard asthma treatment, and if your attacks come on suddenly followed by a quick recovery.

As always, never try to diagnose yourself. For the best treatment, keep a close eye on your symptoms and share your observations with your physician.

Wobenzym - Why use it?

11-Dec-05

Wobenzym is one of the top ezymatic supplements due to its fast working ability to help improve many spheres of the body’s health.

Enzymes are intriguing in their ability to help elevate the level of human health and wellbeing. Enzymes are proteins that are an essential part of the environment. Life itself, without enzymes would be impossible. Enzymes are required for all chemical processes that enable life to be possible. There are no vitamins, hormones or minerals that can exercise their valuable effects within the body while the participation of enzymes is lacking.

Notwithstanding their essential role in all physical functions, it is recently become fully appreciated what the complete significance of enzymes in human physical condition and ailments is. The MUCOS Pharma Company has been a pioneer in the area of systemic enzyme treatment. They have been an example to others for the last half century by having smoothed the path to clarify the utility of enzymes, and their uses as an oral systemic treatment.

The question has been posed: Why does Wobenzym work so effectively? The answer resides in the realization of the type of enzymes that Wobenzym is made from. The enzymes are called proteolytic enzymes; these are enzymes which cuts other proteins around it. When the body is in its normal physiological state, these proteolytic enzymes sustain homeostasis within the healthy body; in addition they break down abnormal proteins that can occur during a variety of diseases. Therefore, in fundamental research and numerous clinical trials that have been performed over the course of many years under the patronage of MUCOS Pharma, Wobenzym has been discovered to cause the degradation of detrimental and atypical immune complexes which can precipitate a range of autoimmune diseases. In addition, immune complexes can also clot the blood, which can possibly activate an assortment of diseases. These studies are a matter of public domain, and may be readily retrieved.

As researchers continue to gain knowledge of the correlation between enzymes and good health, larger numbers of physicians are recommending Wobenzym for a variety of ailments. It’s a straightforward piece of information that systemic enzymes are necessary to our health. Systemic enzymes are utterly indispensable in order to keep your body in good health and as an aide to an active lifestyle. Your body utilizes systemic enzymes to realign the inflammatory system reaction and modify repair processes to help your body to recuperate from injury and sickness. You are fortunate because you are able to restock your supply with the enzymes that occur naturally which are ingredients of Wobenzym.

The areas in which Wobenzym is recommended are: for healthy joints, to improve mobility, to make circulation more robust, to increase the healthy aging process, utilized to normalize inflammation and to help with recuperation from sports injuries. Unlike other medicinal items that are available, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which proffer rapid but momentary solutions, Wobenzym enables your body to restore itself to health. Of all the products that are currently available Wobenzym is the most meticulously researched systemic enzyme supplement in order to ensure the continuation of your good health.

Please To Meet You, My Name Is Rabies

06-Dec-05

Rabies here. Have you ever wondered what i am really all about? Most people just think that i make dogs become angry and foam from the mouth. Well that hardly does my name justice! Try this on for size; I am a viral disease which causes minor encephalitis, and can effect animals AND humans. How’s that!

Granted, I tend to stick with warm blooded carnivors as my prey, but don’t think I can only get at dogs! Any animal on the planet is susceptible to my infection. My greatest power is not well known among the human population. I am uncureable! “Till death do us part” as they say. Once i have found my way into a humans system, I almost invariably kill. The only thing you can do to stop me is prevent me. Vaccination is my worst enemy. If I am caught in time, vaccinations will sometimes lead to my demise instead of yours, but don’t count on it.

I only generally jump from one host to the next through biting. “Why don’t we stop biting each other?” you ask? Because you can’t! I can make you crazy. I ensure my generation to continue by causing you to be a vicious animal. Now that I think about it, I am downright cruel! But now that I have scared you, I must come clean. Humans are not my favorite friends. It’s hard to make you crazy. For the most part, if you are bitten by a rabid animal, you will die unless treated quickly, and that is where it stops. Occasionally I hop to another person through kisses, but for the most part, I tend to stay out of your way. But none the less, be careful!
